What is a Patent Agent ?
A patent agent has the same license as a patent attorney to represent clients before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and is recognized equally by the USPTO. Both agents and attorneys may prepare, file and prosecute patent applications for their clients, including appeal before PTO's Board of Appeals. But only an attorney can handle litigation outside the jurisdiction of USPTO when all possible appeals within the PTO are exhausted.
